Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is informed by the fact that art and visual culture lie at the intersection of many human traditions and values. In our media-saturated world, visual intelligence is paramount, regardless of major or career path.

Mission

I lead students to discover art by employing high-impact teaching and learning practices, such as those identified by the American Association of Colleges & Universities. My pedagogy integrates service-learning, undergraduate research, living learning communities, capstone projects, study abroad, and collaborative assignments to maximize student success.

Vision

I have had the pleasure to work with SOVA majors in advanced art history classes, as well as a large population of non-arts majors, through the Visual Arts and Society Minor, who contribute a wealth of perspectives that I use to fuel interdisciplinary inquiry in class.
